Energy Efficient Washer

We already talked about how you can save energy with an energy efficient washer and dryer, but what about water? While some of the same principles apply, saving water not only helps to protect a crucial natural resource, but it also helps to reduce our collective carbon footprint.

Wash in full loads
Rather than washing a few smaller loads throughout the week, it's both more energy and water efficient to wash one larger load. Not only will it save money on your water bill, but it will save you time by having to do laundry less often. If you have to wash a smaller load, adjust the water level accordingly. Many washers, especially newer models have different settings for different loads - it really does make a difference to your water bill and to the environment over the long haul.

Consider upgrading
If you have a top loading washer, consider upgrading to a side loading washer. You can save between 30 to 60 percent more water (up to 7,500 gallon of water) and some have even been shown to clean your clothes better than most top loading models. Additionally, you might even be able to get a rebate from your utility company for upgrading, especially if you select an Energy Star model.
